Supercharge your Business with Amazon Web Services

In today’s world, the Internet and technology have become very common in companies of all sizes. People who are using the Internet, the speed of information response, together with a variety of electronic devices and bigger storage capacities, has brought forth a new era in social media. Cloud computing can be considered as the innovative of this new technology and can bring a diversity of advantages to business.

Developing in the cloud enables users to get their applications to market quickly. Hardware failures do not result in data loss because of networked backups. Cloud computing uses remote resources, saving organizations the cost of servers and other equipment.

What is cloud computing?

Through a service provider, cloud computing is a system that serves as an internet-based information data centre where customers can access all kind of files and software safely through several different devices, no matter where they are.

It is a solution for companies and individuals looking for an easy way to store and access media from one device to another and the ability to share that media with other people who have been given access.

Cloud computing is efficient and better for promoting strong workflow; it’s also much more cost-effective than traditional computing solutions. For one, you no longer have to worry about the cost of hiring IT experts to handle your systems because they’re being handled for you on behalf of a third party.

Cloud computing is the on-demand delivery of IT resources over the Internet with pay-as-you-go pricing. Instead of buying, owning, and maintaining physical data centers and servers, you can access technology services, such as computing power, storage, and databases, on an as-needed basis from a cloud provider.

Cloud computing was popularized with Amazon.com releasing its Elastic Compute Cloud product in 2006.

Cloud Computing identifies 5 essential characteristics:

On-demand Self-service

⚪Broad network access

⚪Resource Pooling

⚪Rapid elasticity

⚪Measured service

Types Of Cloud Computing

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)

IaaS contains the basic building blocks for cloud IT. It typically provides access to networking features, computers (virtual or on dedicated hardware), and data storage space. IaaS gives you the highest level of flexibility and management control over your IT resources. It is most similar to the existing IT resources with which many IT departments and developers are familiar.

Platform as a Service (PaaS)

PaaS removes the need for you to manage underlying infrastructure (usually hardware and operating systems), and allows you to focus on the deployment and management of your applications. This helps you be more efficient as you don’t need to worry about resource procurement, capacity planning, software maintenance, patching, or any of the other undifferentiated heavy lifting involved in running your application.

Software as a Service (SaaS)

SaaS provides you with a complete product that is run and managed by the service provider. In most cases, people referring to SaaS are referring to end-user applications (such as web-based email). With a SaaS offering, you don’t have to think about how the service is maintained or how the underlying infrastructure is managed. You only need to think about how you will use that particular software.

Types Of Cloud

Private Cloud

Private cloud is cloud infrastructure operated solely for a single organization, whether managed internally or by a third party, and hosted either internally or externally. Undertaking a private cloud project requires significant engagement to virtualize the business environment, and requires the organization to revaluate decisions about existing resources.

Public cloud
Cloud services are considered "public" when they are delivered over the public Internet, and they may be offered as a paid subscription, or free of charge. Architecturally, there are few differences between public- and private-cloud services, but security concerns increase substantially when services (applications, storage, and other resources) are shared by multiple customers. Most public-cloud providers offer direct-connection services that allow customers to securely link their legacy data centers to their cloud-resident applications.

Hybrid Cloud

Hybrid cloud is a composition of a public cloud and a private environment, such as a private cloud or on-premises resources, that remain distinct entities but are bound together, offering the benefits of multiple deployment models. Hybrid cloud can also mean the ability to connect collocation, managed and/or dedicated services with cloud resources.

The Leading Cloud Platform AWS

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform, offering over 175 fully featured services from data centers globally. Millions of customers—including the fastest-growing startups, largest enterprises, and leading government agencies—are using AWS to lower costs, become more agile, and innovate faster.

 Global Network Of AWS Regions

AWS has the most extensive global cloud infrastructure. No other cloud provider offers as many Regions with multiple Availability Zones connected by low latency, high throughput, and highly redundant networking. AWS has 77 Availability Zones within 24 geographic regions around the world, and has announced plans for nine more Availability Zones and three more AWS Regions in Indonesia, Japan, and Spain. The AWS Region/Availability Zone model has been recognized by Gartner as the recommended approach for running enterprise applications that require high availability.

AWS Case Studies

HotStar

Using AWS, Novi Digital drastically reduced both cost and time to market for its over-the-top (OTT) content platform, hotstar.com. Novi Digital is one of India’s largest media companies, providing streaming video for more than 40 channels in seven languages to more than 720 million users. The company uses AWS to provide cost-effective scalability and reliability for its OTT platform.

Novi digital is part of star india private limited, they are the leading media and entertainment business in India.

They first launched digital platform starsports.com in 2012 and the new hotstar brand which caters to OTT service for the entertainment space in this country in February 2015.

Challenges they were facing was that for such a large platform with such a large audience to get to each one of them they needed a platform that they could depend on

AWS has been partner of their choice for a system integrators partner as well as the media company that  works with lots of solutions.

Key Advantages that led them to choose Amazon over other cloud service provides were:

🔷The maturity is not just about buying infrastructure on the cloud or deploying services over the cloud but how mature services are running on the clouds like AWS.

🔷The way and approaches Enterprises like AWS uses to deploy solution over a cloud rather than deploying applications over the cloud.

🔷Broad Components of aws, their Traditional Cloud Services : EC2, Elastic Load Balancer, S3, Route 53 these are all of the core componets that creates an architecture to support Database, Backend, Frontend and Caching.

🔷AWS approach of solving problems rather than taking requirements and executing all of them

Tushar Amin (Assistant Vice President, Novi Digital) says:

Any person who is looking at a cloud service provider for Start-ups or their  enterprise organisation should use AWS as it provides :

1. Low Cost, no capital investments

2. High Scalability for whole infrastructure

3. Reach out to customers globally with low latency.

In the News: Hotstar Sets New Global Record for Live Viewership

Indian streaming giant Hotstar broke the global record for simultaneous streaming viewers this past weekend with 18.6 million users watching the finals of the Indian Premier League cricket tournament

Not Only Hotstar, Aws has many Enterprise Organizations as Customers worldwide including Netflix, LinkedIn, Facebook, ESPN,BBC etc.
At present, AWS has passed over 1 Million Active Customers.
